Goat Sales Policy

General Health

All animals that leave our homestead will be healthy and disease free. Due to the nature of goats, risk of illness and/or loss transfers to new owners once the goat leaves our custody. If an animal was purchased and happens to die before it leaves our farm the money will be refunded.

All goats registered will be tattooed. Tattoos can and do fade, so we do not guarantee a legible tattoo. Tattoos will need to be checked and re-done by the buyer if they fade.
All kids are disbudded. If you prefer your goats with horns, a nonrefundable payment of the full purchase price must be received before disbudding date, which is usually around 2 weeks old.

Our adult goats are annually tested for CAE and Johne’s. We have never had a positive result and will be happy to show you results from our most recent tests.

All of the goats at Thyme & Timber are quality bred dairy goats. Please see read our “Warranties” portion for information on congenital concerns.

Deposits

Kid Goats: Holds/reservations for youngstock (under 8 mo.) require a NON-REFUNDABLE deposit ($50 deposit per goat) for us to hold an animal for you. Doelings are typically bottle raised, preference is to have them leave around 4 wks old on a bottle. Baby goats must be pick-up by 8wks old. Unless otherwise discussed the following will apply:

If kids stay longer than 8 wks old, there will be a $25 per week fee for boarding those kids with a 2-week grace period before buyer forfeits sale. And as this becomes a boarding situation, we will not liable for death, injury, or illness. Vet/medication costs for kids will then become responsibility of buyer.

Please contact us before sending a deposit. Once you put a deposit down/pay in full on an animal it is NON-REFUNDABLE.

Adult Goats:

Holds for adults (8 mo. and older) require a NON-REFUNDABLE deposit (50% purchase price per goat) for us to hold an animal for you.
Unless otherwise discussed, adult goats must picked up and paid in full within 2 weeks of deposit date.

Adult goats are sold as is with the exception of genetic defects as covered under “warranties” below.

After two weeks, boarding fees at $5.00 a day will accrue and, as a boarding situation, we will not liable for death, injury, or illness.  Vet costs will then become responsibility of buyer. Please contact us before sending a deposit. Once you put a deposit down/pay in full on an animal it is NON-REFUNDABLE.

Deposits can be made using cash, Venmo, CashApp, or PayPal (w/ 4% added) and receipt will be given. If the animal you have selected becomes unavailable for some reason, deposits may be transferred to another animal. We reserve the right to withdraw any animal from availability for any reason at any time. If this happens we will refund your deposit.
If any goat has not been picked up within 30 days from the date of sale, unless mutually agreed upon in writing for them to stay longer, the sale will be considered forfeited, and any fees paid nonrefundable. Buyer will also be billed for accrued boarding fees.

Also, in the unlikely event that your selected goat(s) should die while it is still in our possession within the 30 days past sale, the goat(s) will be replaced with one of equal value, at our discretion, as soon as one is available, or a full refund including deposit will be given.

Selling a Single Goat

We do not sell single kids to homes/farms with no other similar age/size goat kids. Even if you have an existing herd, a single kid can wind up being bullied and not fitting in. A wether makes great, inexpensive buddy for a single doe or buck kid!

Pedigree and Registration

Goats will be registered with ADGA and/or AGS. If we bred the animal,  we guarantee the sire and dam are correct. We do not guarantee the validity of the rest of the pedigree, or pedigree of animals we did not breed, as it is simply out of our ability to know/verify goat lineage from other herds is 100% accurate.

If your goat has not yet been named by us, feel free to request up to three name choices and we will do our best to pick one that suits them. We will not entertain profane or perverse names. When selecting a name, consider two words two help ensure unique options for future kids born. Ex: Cool Beans, Little Debbie, Mr. Mustache, Wild Fern, etc.
Upon full payment of selected goat(s), we agree to provide all necessary papers for ADGA and/or AGS registration and transfer of ownership form(s) to you. We prefer to complete new registrations online whenever applicable and have the CoR mailed directly to the buyer. We will forward the registration confirmation(s) to the buyer.
If goat is already registered, buyer agrees to complete and submit the signed transfer(s) of ownership through ADGA and/or AGS at your expense within 30 days of date of sale/pick-up date.

Warranties

All of the goats at Thyme & Timber are quality bred dairy goats. While we strive to produce goats for betterment of the breed, not all goats will meet our high expectations. This is may be obvious at an early age. Most times, you will not know the quality of the animal until it has matured. For does, you often won’t know until after they freshen. For bucks, after their daughters freshen. In the case of a buck, his proof of quality is in the daughters he throws. Ideally, consistent, beautiful daughters with nice udders out of different dams. When purchasing a young goat, there is no guarantee it will be great quality. Therefore, we cannot make any guarantees, either expressed or implied, regarding physique, show quality, fertility, or udder quality.

We will offer a replacement on the following congenital issues of a purchased animal we bred and somehow missed, if proof* is provided

  1. Teat defects – congenital issues only, not injury related.
  2. Cryptorchidism – one or both undescended testicles.
  3. Freemartin/hermaphrodite – sterile/infertile or intersex doe, veterinarian diagnosis.
  4. Severe heart murmur – veterinarian diagnosis required.
  5. Goats tested with two copies of Congenital Myotonia (CM) AND with proof* provided that the animal is physically affected. The goat must be tested within a year after purchasing for this to apply, and papers on that goat relinquished to us prior to any replacement given. Those situations will be handled on a case-by-case basis.

We do not guarantee the quality of offspring that ANY of our goats sold may produce later. There are too many variables at play regarding passing potential genetic defects, and therefore we do not make any guarantees regarding the future offspring of sold goats. We also do not guarantee our goats from developing future defects, such as maturing over height, carpal hyperextension, pendulous udder, or any other condition that occurs after they have left our property.

We do not currently test for Congential Myotonia (CM) and have never owned or produced a goat exhibiting symptoms of CM. Effective starting 2026, for new goat purchases, buyers may request and pay for CM testing prior to the animal leaving our farm if they want to know carrier status. If the goat is still in our care and comes back with 2 copies, we will refund the deposit and forfeit the sale at the buyer’s discretion. Goats are sold AS IS with no guarantee of CM status.

You have the right to inspect/have the goat inspected prior to leaving our property. Once the goat is transported off our property, whether you elected to have the goat checked or not, you accept it AS IS.
*Proof means video or photo evidence of the goats and if not “visually evident”, a signed statement from a veterinarian.

Payment

We accept payments made via cash, Venmo, Zelle, CashApp or PayPal (+4% to cover fees). Payments must be cleared and the animal paid in full before it can leave our farm. We do not accept personal checks. Balance of payment on your goat(s) will be due upon notification that they are ready to leave for their new home and must be paid in full prior to the time of transport. All shipping costs (transportation, heath certificates, testing, crates etc.) are the buyer’s responsibility.

Pickup/Transport

We will work with you to arrange for pickup or meeting in the nearest city between us. We highly recommend bringing a dog crate or other safe form of containment for transportation. If using outside transportation services, buyers are fully responsible for pickup and transport arrangements, including any costs associated. Bottle kids will need to be picked up no later than 4 weeks of age. Any kid being picked up by a transporter (buck or doe) MUST go as a pair. This is for the health of your goat(s). They will arrive in much better condition when they travel with a friend! We often have wethers we can offer to keep your costs down. We have the right to refuse any transportation that appears unsafe or dangerous conditions for the goat(s).

Please note: customers with poultry, waterfowl, goats, sheep, or cattle MUST practice biosecurity and may not be permitted on our property beyond a certain point to protect our animals. Please feel free to ask any questions prior to pickup.

Lifelong Support

Your relationship with us doesn’t end when you leave with your new animal. We want to be here for you for as long as you own your Thyme & Timber goat. You can call, email or connect with us on social media. We love photos and updates too!
